- Fun Ideas for a Family Day in South London
9 am – Be the first to arrive at the food lover’s emporium, Borough Market, for a hearty breakfast and the ultimate experience in grocery shopping. Test your Bugaboo’s underseat bag to the max with the bounty of delicious food and goodies on sale, from organic and healthy to decadent and indulgent. Navigate your way around the market maze with this helpful map.
With restaurants and cafes galore offering the best breakfast and brunch this side of the river, sit back and let Junior enjoy the theatre of the market traders at work. If your tot isn’t a fan of leisurely brunches, take advantage of the stalls offering fantastic food on-the-go. Perfect for busy Mums.
10.30 am - Once the masses hit the market, make your escape to the South Bank and show Junior some of the best views London has to offer. Make a quick detour into the shop at Vinopolis and marry up a bottle of wine to the exotic ingredients you’ve just bought for dinner at the market.
11 am – Let Junior release his inner Pirate (and burn off some energy ready for his midday nap) on the Golden Hinde, London’s replica Tudor Warship.
11.30 am Need an antidote to the swashbuckling adventures? Take a detour into the Tate Modern for a quick scoot at the latest exhibitions and make use of the change facilities for Junior.
12.00 pm – Take advantage of the your little nipper’s nap time and head to Gabriel’s Wharf for coffee and a crepe, full lunch or a quick pizza, followed by some retail therapy at the independent design and designer shops.
1.00 pm When Junior starts to stir and voices his objections to your pit stop, take a leisurely stroll to Waterloo station via the Royal Festival Hall, keeping an eye out for the free events and exhibitions inside and out. Update your home library with a selection of books from the book stalls under the bridges before moving on to have an ogle at the London Eye.
Once inside the 1000 hectare park, your intrepid explorer can hunt out the famous red deer, as well as swans, grebe, mallards and gadwall, all hiding in the woodland gardens, grasslands and ponds.
4.00 pm When Junior’s batteries run empty, head back into Richmond for a stroll along the Thames. Finish the day off with tea and cake for you and dinner for your tot at the child friendly Carluccios opposite Richmond Station.
Before you know it, it’s time to head home by train, tube, bus or taxi, ready to put an exhausted adventurer to bed, leaving you free to cook up a treat for dinner and open that bottle of wine.

The Golden Hinde is a great excurssion for Senior and Junior alike!
Would be great if there were more shopping advice for fathers as well, but otherwise a well thought out trip.
